 Project 2.0 Semiotics- the study or signs and symbols and how they are interpreted Denotation- straightforward image of something that can only be interpreted as itself. Connotation- an image that adds another layer of meaning Icon- image used to represent a person, place, thing or idea. Tone- lightness or darkness of an object Metaphor- an image that describes an object or idea that is not literal, but uses comparison of another object to explain the object.

 Project 0.1 21/1/21 Art From Videos and Websites that Inspired Me Sosolimited, Set Top Box This is a TV that is playing daytime television, while the subtitles are being processed, analyzed, and projected on the wall. My idea based on this piece: A TV is showing a muted soap opera, while the subtitles being projected on the wall are from cooking shows. That way it looks like the characters on the soap opera are arguing about cooking. Christopher Boyle, Identity Guidelines Boyle made this piece with the idea of "branding" himself, the same way a company might brand a product. My idea based on this piece: I want to make a prototype for the packaging of a product that is me. If you buy a product at a store that comes in a box, there is a picture of the product on the box and information about the product. I would get a box that is tall as I am and then design packaging that displays a picture of me and what I can do, as though I am a product in the box.  Book Series These are t...

  Process Journal Isabel Engel  19/1/21 Old Spice Deodorant This is my deodorant. I tend to use men's deodorant because I prefer musky scents than the floral scents that usually come with women's deodorant. Being a female using men's deodorant, I've noticed a lot about the design, especially regarding its focus towards men and being manly. First of all, Old Spice tends to use words and fonts that are traditionally associated with being a man, especially an old fashioned man. For example the label describes the scent as "swagger" or "confidence." These words are also in vintage or masculine looking fonts, while women's usually has very feminine typography, usually utilizing lots of cursive. The imagery on the Old Spice also is very reminiscent of an "old fashioned man." The lion in the background can be associated with courage or bravery.
